Le piano préparé, depuis John Cage, a connu de multiples métamorphoses; Stéphane Sassi propose ici sa contribution à ces recherches à travers la découverte du Piano Paille. Voyage vers des ailleurs aux couleurs de ces sonorités familières ou étranges, issues des interférences entre le piano et les pailles. C’est aussi une rencontre avec la lumière à travers les improvisations en “duo” avec le sténopé de la photographe Mabel Odessey, dont est issu ce double album qui mêle performances et compositions sonores et visuelles.
Piano Paille Pinhole is an experimental project in which two artists (Stéphane `Sassi and Mabel Odessey) and two art forms (music and photography) exchange, innovate and transform their separate mediums. The performances are like multi-media jam sessions, during which sound and light play with each other. The boundaries between subject and object are removed and the interaction between photographer and musician is fluid. Each session, with all the unpredictability of improvisation results in an image and a piece of music. Both light and sound are waves of energy, the photographs are a manifestation of the energy generated by the music, and the music with imposed silences and flashes responds to the light. Piano Paille Pinhole is also adventure into new territories stretching the artists in their practices and propelling them beyond their limits.
